3 Keys to Be Prepared for Your Moment
I love finding inspiration when I least expect it and the other weekend it came to me while attending a virtual graduation at the University of Pennsylvania for my dear friend Crystal who just got her PhD and is now an official Doctor of Education. That achievement in itself is quite inspirational as over the years, as a friend and life coach, I’ve witnessed what it took to secure a spot in that PhD program and then the unbelievable amount of work to graduate, while being a mom, wife and entrepreneur. (Parents, check out her cool summer camps & educational programs at Plato Learning.)
Just when you think you just can’t achieve that dream, gentle reminder…you may have to make some adjustments along the way…but YES YOU CAN!
At the UPENN virtual graduation ceremony, the commencement speech was given by Dr. Michael Sorrell, President of Paul Quinn College, and I just loved his breakdown of a few key steps one must take to make sure you are prepared for your moment.
3 Keys To Be PrepareD For Your Moment
Take Risks + Be Accepting of Failure
“You have to learn how to fail forward. Nothing great happens from places of comfort.” - Dr. Sorrell
This is so true! When we are risk averse, more often than not, we stay nice and cozy in our little comfort zone. Nowadays, that just won’t do. What worked once before, no longer works in this “new normal” way of life that we are embarking upon. Now is the time more than ever to release the fear of the “what if” and go for it! Failing does suck and it’s also super depressing, but we must hold onto faith and continue to push through and be willing to “fail forward.”
2. Be Ready
“You must be ready when fate calls upon you. You cannot have a reluctant fight with your destiny. “ - Dr. Sorrell
Again…soooo true! I love this. Why fight what is our destiny? Isn’t it so much better to try our best to be prepared…to be open to enjoy the fruits of our labor?
So whatcha gonna do? Be clear with what you desire to unfold and if you don’t know, that is fine. Just give yourself the time to play, to sit, to discover, to ponder. Listen to your intuition and stop listening to everybody else. Your inner wisdom will never steer you wrong!
3. Do The Right Thing
”Fall in love with justice!” - Dr. Sorrell
There is so much unjust tragedy in every facet of our world. From personal relationships to societal, racial and governmental injustice…it is just never-ending. If you really pay attention to the news, the state of our society, racism, the climate, the international wars, the lies and scams of those in power…it’s a lot to deal with. It’s also enough to take you over the edge. There is a lot of personal fulfillment when we do our part to help make this world a better place. They say justice will prevail. I’m not too sure about that, but we must keep up the good fight and make standing up for what is right a priority in our lives. How do you contribute to positive social change?
I would love to know. Stay tuned for my upcoming Ignite Your Radiance Masterclass in June.
